Ringo Week: HeroesCon Memories

With the sad news of Mike Wieringo passing, I'm following Dr. K's suggestion by paying tribute to the art and stories I've enjoyed that he's been involved in.

First I wanted to talk about HeroesCon. As a North Carolina resident, Ringo was a fixture at HeroesCon. I managed to find this from the first HeroesCon I ever went to as a lad of 14 back in 1994.

This was before he hit the big time, and I didn't have any comics by him, so I didn't meet him.

Here is his piece from this year's HeroesCon:

Chad talked about this a little already, but Mike Wieringo was always kind and gracious to fans at the con. He always had a line of fans. In 2005, when Chad and I had a table at the con, we were only a few feet away from us in the same area. We got to see him first hand in action. Even after the show was over, he did a sketch for Chad of Dr. Impossible.

First Class guy, fantastic artist.

Jeff Parker, who was a studio mate and friend posted a great tribute as well. I encourage everyone to go read it.
