Ringo Week: Fantastic Four

I "re-discovered" Mike Wieringo when he and Mark Waid teamed up again for the Fantastic Four. I think most everyone acknowledges that this run was an instant classic, one of the best in years for the FF.

The cover of the above is from the two-part Spidey Sense story, which I would say if you were only going to read one arc from that run, read this one. Spider-man and the Human Torch team up to fight Hydro-man at a water park. By accident. It's as good as it sounds.

Again, Ringo was just right for the project. Even with some of the darker storylines that happened in this run, overall, it was a fun, grand cosmic adventure; none of which was too big for Ringo. One of the most memorable scenes in that run for is when Johnny and Sue switch powers, and Johnny becomes the Herald of Galactus. He runs across an alien warrior trying to protect his planet, and he accidentally splits the guy in half. That spread of that shot was amazing, Ringo really nailed it.

I didn't want to post it here, because it was kind of gross, and it's early morning.

There were also a lot of touching, heartwarming moments in the run too. The last issue of the run was a pretty special moment, and a good close to the run. Below is the last page for the run which in a whole summed up the Waid/Ringo approach to the book.
